Arts for Social Change Report

Arts for Social Change is an organization rooted in social, environmental, and political justice, designed to engage heads, hearts, and hands, and is a form of cultural democracy designed to nurture insight, exchange, and action.

This resource, published in September 2019, details the results of a six-year national collaborative study - the ASC! Project - on the current state and future needs of arts for social change (ASC) in Canada. Hosted by Simon Fraser University's International Centre of Art for Social Change (ICASC.ca), the study was completed in collaboration thanks to a $2.5 million grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

Nearly 40 Research Associates and Research Assistants were involved with the project, which received more than $1 million in matching contributions. Many text and video resources were some of the outcomes of this project, as well as exhibtions, performances, and diverse community events, and the resources along with many practical tools for the ASC sector are available on the comprehensive icasc.ca website.

The article links to a brief overview of the project, providing four key kindings across education, connection, information awareness, and the adaptability of ASC practice, and details several of the projects undertaken.
